Disappointing product #2: Eyeko London Eye Makeup Remover Wipes

If you are a mascara addict like myself, you must have heard of Eyeko London. In a recent few years, its liquid eyeliner pencil also became famous thanks to the collaboration with the 'it girl', Alexa Chung. I have tried both its mascaras and  liquid eyeliner pencil and to be honest, I wasn't very impressed. Another hyped up brand... :-(

Eyeko eye makeup remover wipes: Type 1(matte)

Eyes Eye Makeup Remover Wipes are one of their newly launched products along with eyeshadow sticks, brow gels, etc. I initially got mine from a beauty box (I think it was Look Fantastic Box) at the end of last year which looked something like this.

Eyes eye makeup remover wipes: Type 2(shiny)

As you can tell from the picture, this one was different from the one that I got recently, which I will talk about later. This one had a shiny packaging and I really liked it! When it comes to waterproof eye-makeup remover, my expectation is simple: I want it to get rid of waterproof makeup, especially mascara, AND doesn't irritate my eyes. The wipes in this shiny packaging were perfect in ways that:
  • the size is big enough to remove makeup on both eyes (I wear the toughest waterproof mascara out there, ones that you can swim with and trust me, if I can remove makeup on both eyes, one wipe will be more than enough for most of you guys who wear non-waterproof or normal waterproof mascaras);
  • the wipes are damp and the packaging is secure enough to prevent them from dying out;
  • the remover itself is GREAT; it doesn't hurt or irritate my eyes and effectively remove all the makeup; and
  • I like the fact that it's infused with natural skin-perfecting ingredients such as olive oil, aloe vera and grapefruit. I am not 100% sure if it perfects the skin around eyes but these ingredients make the entire process of removing eye makeup very soothing and refreshing.

Thinking I was going to get the same one, I went ahead and purchase a full-size product last month and what a waste of money!!! At first, I thought it was just the packaging (matte) that was changed but soon it became clear that the formula is TOTALLY different. ;-( As far as the ingredients concern, there seem no difference, but simply the wipes in this new MATTE packaging doesn't remove the waterproof mascaras! At first, I thought I was doing something wrong, but after using 4 wipes one night, it soon became clear that this is NOT the same product

I haven't tried the wipes with normal waterproof mascaras (e.g. Loreal, Maybelline, Max Factor, Eyeko, etc.), so can't tell you not to purchase this as these new formula wipes might work with them. However, if you wear tough waterproof mascaras which require a specific waterproof makeup remover, I would stay away from these wipes. With this being said, I still see the ones in original shiny packaging in many online stores. It's hard to gauge if this means that they are selling the original or new formula but I wouldn't risk it.

Why brands change the formula of really good products all the time?!!

Hopefully, some of you guys out there found this post helpful.

Thanks for reading!
