Loreal Paris True Match concealer battle: Pen vs. Tube

We all heard about rave reviews about Loreal Paris True Match Touche Magique concealer. I also recently came across Fleur de Force YouTube videos where she talks about how great Loreal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Perfecting Concealer, AKA True Match concealer. I usually like the products recommended by Fleur de Force, so I went to Boots and got myself a True Match concealer. Here are my thoughts on the two concealers of the Loreal Paris True Match line.

My dark circles aren't that bad but by now, I must have gone through 100+ concealer tubes/pots/pens... Of course this number includes ones that I disliked. Despite the fact that I know exactly what I like, for some reason, I always want to discover a new holy grail product. I often fail, but I still do it.

About 6 months ago, I had a massive clear-out and since then, I tried to use up all the open products, instead of buying new ones. I did re-discover some of my old favourite concealers such as YSL Touche Eclat, Bebefit Boeing, Maybelline Eraser Eye, Rimmel Match Perfection 2-in-1, etc. About two months ago, all the favourites were gone and I was left with the ones that I didn't like that much but not particularly hated. One of them was Loreal Paris True Match Touche Magique concealer.

Loreal Paris True Match Touche Magique Concealer Pen (01 ivory beige)

Honestly, I couldn't understand why this concealer was so hyped up. Its full name is Touche Magique Anti-fatigue and Illuminating Concealer-Smoothing Effect. This sounds like everything that I am looking for in under-eye concealer, but unfortunately the reality is quite different from what it promises. I found this concealer very dry (almost chalky) and has no highlighting effect. As I chose a shade which is lighter than my skin tone, it brightens BUT my under-eye areas feel very dry.
Would I repurchase it?

Definitely NOT.

Loreal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Perfecting Concealer (02 Vanille)

To cut a long story short, I LOOOOOOVE this concealer. It has a doe foot applicator which provides a perfect amount of concealer. Personally, I am not a big fan of pen-type concealers in general mainly because it's impossible to control the amount of product coming out of the tube. I always have to click (or roll the end) several times in order to get the product out and when it comes out, it's always too much. :-(

Besides the applicator, this concealer is a definite winner for me in many ways:
  • It's creamy and as the name suggests, very blendable and non-cakey;
  • It doesn't dry out my under eye areas;
  • It has a medium coverage, making my dark circles disappear immediately;
  • Whilst it has a yellow-undertone, it brightens my under eye areas and other high parts of my face very well.
Here is a swatch of two concealers.

There is no doubt in my mind this is a MUCH better concealer than Touche Magique pen. I read in other blog posts that Loreal might have changed the formula of Touche Magique recently and the new version is never the same as the old: what a shame...

Anyway, I hope that none of you guys out there are fooled by the new Touche Magique pen like myself. If you need a good under-eye, plus highlighting concealer, give True Match Super-Blendable concealer a go. You won't regret it!

Thanks for reading and I hope you all have a wonderful day!
