Who else panicked when MUFE announced that they were going to discontinue Face & Body foundation? Luckily in the UK, you can still purchase original Face & Body from Debenhams but ever since MUFE released the new formula, Water Blend foundation, I have been dying to try out the new one. After researching for the right shade for 3 months, I finally went ahead and purchased Water Blend foundation in Soft Beige (Y305) from Debenhams website and I'd like to share my thoughts about it.
So far, I used this foundation three times and I really like it.
Let's look at the original description of this foundation from Make Up For Ever.
Give skin a fresh, dewy glow with this unrivaled formula that feels so lightweight, sheer and comfortable. The quick and easy application makes it ideal for face & body, as the water-based waterproof foundation evens out the complexion to leave a natural-looking, satin finish. Created with 80% water, this long-lasting unique water-gel texture naturally hydrates and blends in evenly for a smooth, flawless look.
I agree with all claims made above. I like everything about this foundation including the fact that it now doesn't have weird scent that the original formula had. It is little thicker than the original formula but equally light and blends very well. It provides a sheer coverage which means that if you are someone like me who likes a natural finish, you will love this foundation while if you like a flawless finish, you might want to skip this one. I really like the new bottle as well. To be honest, besides the weird scent, I hated the original formula for its packaging: my lid broke after the second time I used. Also, so far I haven't experienced a weird gunky stuff which used to come out with the first pump every morning.
Shade
I have the shade Y305 (Soft Beige) and it is a perfect match for my yellow light skin tone. For reference of my foundation/base shades, click here. As we don't have a MUFE store in Edinburgh, I spent quite a while looking for the perfect shade. I found lots of people who have similar skin tone as mine, especially Chinese and Korean people, chose Y245 (Sand) and their reviews were the same: it's a bit lighter than the original formula in shade 20 (Ivory). I use the original Face and Body in both shade 20 (Ivory) and 32 (Alabaster Beige). Personally shade 20 (Ivory) is perfect for cold months but definitely too light for summer. Therefore, I decided not to go for Y245; instead, I went ahead with Y305 which is the lightest shade in medium skin tone and it is perfect. In my opinion, Y305 falls in-between 20 and 32 of the original Face and Body.
Ingredients / Coverage
As you can see from the ingredient list below, water is the main ingredient of this foundation; in fact, it is 80% water foundation and creates the prettiest dewy finish. It also blends seamlessly, thus making it very easy to build up the coverage. The only thing you need to remember is that because the coverage is so sheer that even after 3-4 layers of foundation, you can still see your skin underneath which I really like.
I also compared ingredients of the new formula with the original and there is quite a bit of difference between the two. Amongst of all changes, I like the fact that they got rid of paraben (nasty but a common preservative for cosmetic products) for the new formula best.
Just in case, you are wondering there are the ingredient lists from the two:

Make Up For Ever Water Blend Face & Body in shade Y305 (Soft Beige) |
Packaging
There is a definite improvement. I like the frost finish of the bottle and the lid seems a lot more robust than the original Face and Body. The lid of my original Face and Body in shade 32 broke after a couple of use and I was stuck with the broken bottle for a year. Because of the pump, I couldn't get rid of this broken lid completely and it used to bother me every time I was using this foundation. I have a high hope that it's not going to happen with Water Blend. Of course, like the original, Water Blend comes with the pump and it dispenses the perfect amount of foundation. I usually uses one full pump, probably one more half pump when I want to build up a bit of coverage where I need. I also like the fact that it contains 50ml which is a lot more than the usual 30ml.
Overall, I am glad that I picked up Water Blend Face & Body. I do see a lot of improvements from the original formula, yet they managed to keep the price the same: who can say no? I picked up my bottle from Debenhams website for £27 / 50ml. When I make the purchase, Debenhams was offering 10% off promotion so I only paid £24.30. They have a similar promotion quite often, so it's definitely worth waiting for.
Hope this review was helpful for those of you guys who are interested in trying out Water Blend Face and Body. Thanks for reading and I hope you guys have a great day!
Love,
Kyra xx
