The weather is getting warmer and I know all of you out there just like myself are getting excited about the next holiday destination! Wherever you are heading, if you are interested in travelling light, you NEED this baby: the Balm Jovi Rockstar Palette. (Of course, I am assuming that you DO want to wear makeup on a holiday).
I am a little late on the Balm bandwagon but I am really happy that I waited for this long. As you can imagine, I own a lot (probably too many) palettes. For a while it was an obsession, then I stopped after I encountered a serious storage problem. Besides, I think the palette-formatted products have become a 'thing' in the past few years that literally every brand released at least one and eventually the excitement disappeared. In general, quality might have improved, but there seem so many overlaps in the market: i.e., how many neutral eyeshadow palettes do we need?
I do love Urban Decay Naked Palette 1, 2 & 3 as well as Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette which is my latest obsession. But when I travel, I want a more compact palette which offers not only eyeshadows but also facial makeup products (e.g. blush, bronzer, highlighter, etc.). As far as I remember, I've been hunting for one for about 3-4 years. In December every year, I spent about 10+ hours solely looking for the perfect all-in-one palette but was never able to make my mind up. About two months ago however, I found a huge 50% sale on the Balm Cosmetics on Amazon.co.uk and the Balm Jovi Rockstar Face Palette was only £13.99! FYI, it is currently sold at £37.50 on feelunique.com, £29.90 on YesStyle.com and £25.47 on Amazon.co.uk. The palette arrived on the next day and I was one very happy bunny. :-D
The Balm Jovi Rockstar Face Palette is great in ways that:
- the packaging is very thin and sturdy, puuuuuuuuuuuurfect for a carry-on bag/luggage;
- it offers a range of well-selected neutral eyeshadow colours in various finish (matte, satin and glittery), perfect for both day and night-out make up;
- the dark shades (Presto, Moderato & The Stroke) are dark enough to be used as eyeliners;
- the texture of these eyeshadows is not the best I experienced in the past (quite a bit of fallout) but still very buttery and pigmentation is amazing;
- the highlighter shade, Solid Gold, is incredible both on inner corners of my eyes as well as tops of my cheek bones;
- you can never go wrong with a highly pigmented coral blush;
- it includes two lip/cheek stains: Milly which is your lips but better shade and Vanilly whose name is quite ironic because it's dark red, perfect for night-out;
- I particularly like the fact that these stains, i.e. cream products, are packed separately from the rest of powder products. Plus, the bottom lid has a magnetic closure!
- lastly, on the back side of the bottom lid, you will find 4 different ways that you can mix&match the product provided. If you are still new to makeup, you may find these instructions very helpful.
Eyeshadow-wise, I still prefer Too Face Chocolate bar palette and UD Naked palettes BUT the Balm Jovi Rockstar Palette is the ultimate winner as far as the all-in-one holiday palette category concerns.
What's the no.1 palette for your holiday makeup bag?
Kyra x
